Great Escapes: Yoga
This updated collection of yoga retreats by Angelika Taschen presents the world’s most inspiring restorative destinations, from Parmarth Niketan Ashram in Rishikesh, regarded as a birthplace of yoga, to Santani, a 48-acre former tea plantation in Sri Lanka where wellbeing meets sustainability.
This beautifully curated guide travels across the globe, showcasing exceptional retreats ranging from luxury escapes in Bhutan and spiritual ashrams in India to beach resorts in Mexico and hidden sanctuaries deep in Brazil’s tropical forests. Highlights include Parmarth Niketan Ashram in Rishikesh, a sacred city on the Ganges and famed pilgrimage site where The Beatles attended Maharishi’s ashram in 1968; and Santani in Sri Lanka, celebrated for its eco-focused philosophy and serene setting.
The journey continues to Santa Maria del Sole in Puglia, which blends yoga with the sensual Italian lifestyle, and Alto Paraíso in Brazil, a secluded haven nestled in lush tropical forest rich in unique flora and fauna. It also features the legendary Esalen Institute in Big Sur, a renowned New Age center offering more than 500 spiritual and physical workshops; Kretashala, one of Europe’s most popular destinations for Vinyasa Yoga, known for authentic Cretan cuisine and sweeping views of the Libyan Sea; and Amansala’s Bikini Boot Camp in Tulum, Mexico, where beach life and yoga come together in a vibrant tropical setting.
