The Art of Outdoor Living
The Art of Outdoor Living invites readers to transform their backyards into stylish, livable retreats. Landscape designer Scott Shrader, known for creating outdoor spaces for clients including Ellen DeGeneres and Patrick Dempsey, shares the grounds of twelve stunning properties, each designed to be both beautiful and functional. From private pools tucked behind lush plantings to bedrooms that open seamlessly to the garden and bar seating by outdoor ovens, Shrader demonstrates how outdoor spaces can extend the home itself.
Through tours of these gardens and reflective essays on sustainability, lifestyle, and design, the book encourages thoughtful planning and creative enjoyment of exterior spaces. With a focus on harmony, style, and practicality, it’s a guide for crafting outdoor environments perfect for entertaining, playing, or simply relaxing, showing how gardens evolve with light, weather, and the seasons.
